FSRT - Foundation Safety and Rescue Training

The Foundation Safety and Rescue Course (FSRT) is a British Canoeing award intended for all paddlers, coaches and volunteers and is available in either bank based or boat based options

It is a vital course to enable you to have the key skills needed to operate safely and deal with common emergencies in a sheltered water environment. 

The FSRT introduces you to safe, simple skills to be able to solve common problems ensuring the safety of yourself and others. You will learn appropriate rescue skills that can be used to help yourself and to help others in difficulty

Prerequisites 

To be able to swim in normal clothing/ clothing you would use to paddle in.

If you are doing a boat based course you must hold the current Paddle Explore Award, 2 Star Award or be of equivalent ability due to the paddling environment and the boat control required to complete the course

 

Bank-based participants accessing the course are not required to hold a Personal Performance Award. However, they should be prepared to fully participate in all relevant aspects of the course.

A First Aid certificate is not a prerequisite. However, holding a First Aid certificate is strongly recommended for all paddlers.
